From the early days of forum culture to navigating today’s fast-paced platforms, this interview explores the journey, challenges, and passion behind keeping a forum alive for nearly two decades.

1. Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background with online forums and gaming communities?
Hello! I am a long time forum admin Demon_skeith, I used to be on most forums back in the day but mostly settled on my own as real life got busier. I’m mostly a gamer and wanted to run a fun and safe site that others could come onto and interact without the drama.

2. What inspired you to create Gaming Latest, and how did the forum first get started?
Well, way back during the G4 forum days, I was invited to a site called Gamingforce by an admin named Zero. I hung out there for a while and like most forums, he closed it, but I wanted to keep it going, so I asked if I could take over and got permission to do so. Eventually I wanted it in my own image, so renamed it to Gaming Latest!

3. When was Gaming Latest launched, and what were your original goals for the community?
Just to have a fun and active site for people to hang out at, nothing big as big idea focus sites tend to collapse after a while.

4. How has Gaming Latest evolved over the years since it first opened?
I don’t think I would recognize my site if I ever looked up its first appearance. I started a site wanting to do everything like include images services, be a host to other games and what not, but I just focus on general discussion.

5. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced while building and maintaining the forum?
Like all good sites, it was maintaining good staff and keeping activity up. Still struggling on the activity, but the site still has a good core amount of members to have fun with.

6. What makes Gaming Latest different from other gaming forums on the internet?
I still keep the site laid back, fun and never close its doors. I’ve seen so many sites close over the years I wish people just jump with my site to maintain their activity efforts.
Some other gaming sites may offer a lot more, but sometimes you just need a fun site to stop by from time to time.

7. What kind of gaming discussions or sections tend to be the most popular on the forum?
Usually Playstation/Nintendo and the general sections. But we offer lots of other sections that keeps seeing good amount of topics.

8. How do you and your staff work to keep the community active and welcoming for new members?
Whelp, we’re working on a YouTube front, trying to get the link out but these days advertising isn’t as easy back during the golden age of forums. But we’re doing what we can.

9. Have there been any particularly memorable moments or milestones for the forum over the years?
The site reaching 10 years old was a huge one, didn’t think I run it for so long and in another year it will be 20! I wonder if I could make it reach 50 years some day? lol.

10. What role do you think forums still play in gaming communities compared to social media and Discord?
It’s… difficult when compared to something far better like Discord. But I like to think forums is still a good way to catalog information or gather people who need more time to interact compared to Discord that is fast-paced.

11. What forum software does Gaming Latest use, and how has your experience been with it?
The site has been on a lot of softwares over the years, mostly IPB and now Xenforo. I like to think the site has worked best on Xenforo, but now it just needs a dedicated Arcade to play games on like IPB had.

12. Do you have any plans or ideas for the future of Gaming Latest that you can share with us?
I hope to fund a very special addon for my gaming Xenforo site that no one else has that will be a huge benefit for the site! Though this may still take a few more years.

13. Outside of running the forum, what are some of your favorite video games or gaming platforms?
Nintendo and Playstation are my top two, with Zelda, Megaman, Mario, Dot Hack being some of my favorites. There are rumors of a Zelda OoT remake and I hope it’s true.

14. What hobbies or interests do you enjoy when you’re not gaming or working on the forum?
I need to get away from technology with it as my work focus and gaming focus, so I get outside and either take walks or garden.

15. Finally, what advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own forum or online community today?
Have patience, get some core members quickly that will stand by you and do your best. It’s very tough but not impossible to get a forum going! Also, put your soul into it, give it some love and don’t use AI, people still appreciate a site built with pride.
