Freelancers are workers who usually work on daily basis and they also have a pretty flexible schedule. Being a freelancer is quite different from being an employee. Employees are usually bound by the company. They cannot fix their own hours. So, what would you like to be? A freelancer or an employee?
I am a freelancer and I have been freelance almost my entire life. However, as a freelancer I am also an employee because I work for companies and individuals. The only difference is I am not in their payroll.
If I had the dedication, motivation, and proper tools to be a freelancer, I would prefer that over being an employee. However, I understand that having an actual job can be more secure. Freelancing is something that is done on your own time, that you don't have to answer to management, and I can appreciate that.
You can't be an employee or freelancer depending on your choice. It depends if you have for example existing clients hiring you at upwork or for example don't have funds to buy connects and then needs to be an employee to serve yourself.
I started off being an employee and making a VERY low wage! Then I got laid off and was making $25 an hour back in the early 1990s! It was incredible making so much money, but I had to pay estimated taxes quarterly and that took a big chunk of my money. I was fortunate that I was on my husband's health insurance because buying it on my own would have cost too much.
I kind of prefer freelance, but the conditions have to be right.
I am a freelancer, but I would much rather have consistent, steady income as an employee. That is the biggest downside to being a freelancer in my opinion.
I'm writing a book series. Young Adult/New Adult Fantasy Series. Check it out: Ravyn Vale
Well, the only downside of being a freelancer is the fact that you may need to hunt for clients. This is one of the most essential things you need to do. When you are an employee, you tend to get a fixed salary. You can even get fixed salary as a freelancer as well. But this depends a lot on your type of contract as a freelancer.
Obviously, I prefer being a freelancer. Being an employee seems like the worst thing to me. The only good thing about it is that you have a fixed salary and you don't have to worry about anything other than working, but everything else seems negative.
