Online forums have been bringing people together for decades, creating spaces where friendships form and conversations thrive. In this interview, we chat with Krissycakes09, a longtime forum user who has spent many years participating in different online communities, including time as a Community Team member at Forum Promotion. She shares how she discovered forums at a young age, the friendships she’s built along the way, and what keeps her coming back to these communities.
1. Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about how you first discovered online forums?
My name is Kristina and I am almost 35! I have a brother that lives in Canada and one brother that lives in Florida in my childhood home with his girlfriend and a beautiful niece. I first discovered forums at the age of 12.
2. Do you remember the first forum you ever joined? What was that experience like?
It was a Christian forum where I met a lady and we talked for years. After I graduated high school, I actually went to stay with her and her three kids.
3. How did you first get involved with the Forum Promotion community?
A friend from another forum told me about it during the Battles, I think.
4. You were part of the Community Team at Forum Promotion. What did your role involve?
I did a lot of approving posts and also worked on some bulletins.
5. What did you enjoy most about being on the Community Team?
Being part of a “family.” 😍
6. What do you think makes a forum community welcoming and active?
Good topics and communication.
7. What types of forum discussions do you enjoy participating in the most?
Anything.
8. How do you think forums compare to social media platforms today?
Social media today is bigger but filled with drama, while forums feel more personal.
9. What keeps you coming back to forums after all these years?
Something has to keep me busy.
10. Have you ever thought about running your own forum? If so, what kind of community would it be?
I’ve thought about it, and it would probably be about different diseases and disabilities.
11. What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of forums?
I like watching TV and sleeping. 🤣
12. Are there any games, shows, or other entertainment you enjoy in your spare time?
I like playing games on Discord, all different kinds. I love cooking shows, murder mystery shows, and others that I can’t think of right now.
13. Have you made any lasting friendships through forums?
Yes, of course! Many, but my favorite friendship is with you. 😍
14. What advice would you give to someone who is new to forums?
Read the rules and follow them. 😛
15. What do you think the future of online forums looks like?
Sadly, I see them dying. 🙁
Conclusion
Kristina’s story shows how forums can become an important part of someone’s life. From discovering them at just 12 years old to building lasting friendships across different communities, her experience highlights the personal connections forums can create. Even as social media continues to grow, dedicated forum members like Kristina remind us why these communities have remained special to so many people over the years.
When I was running a sports forum, krssycakes was one of our moderators. I have also worked with her on another forum where I am a co-admin and she a moderator. I am glad to read about her experience with forums.
Krissycakes09 is an amazing person who I’ve seen on different forums. Her jovial and happy personality makes it easy working with her. I read every single word in the interview and liked how she approached every question. Hopefully, I wish forums don’t die anyway.
